Soloing Masterclass
Music For Solo Bass

About this masterclass
Bassist and composer Mark Helias performs a solo double bass concert, recorded live at the New Music Summit at the ISB Convention in State College, PA. The set features his own compositions, with brief spoken introductions between pieces.
Pieces performed
- Taxa Poem — a new piece opening the set
- Like I Said
- Thumbs Up — written at the request of a bandleader Mark worked with for 17 years
- The Harmonic Line
- Nocturnal — for solo double bass, written in 1981
- Nevers — a short closing piece named after a town in France
This is a performance video rather than a lesson — a chance to hear an advanced solo bass repertoire and how a veteran composer-bassist shapes a full solo set.
